Madison U-13 Tigers Tour 2007
In July 2007 B.E.S.T. Sports and Youth Development welcomed the Madison Tigers U-13 girls team from Connecticut to Ireland. The girls spent nine days in total and played six games against varied opposition. From pemier Dublin teams to lague select teams the American girls took Ireland by storm. They made the local papers, web pages and made many friends on their travels.
During their time in Ireland the girls enjoyed both aspects of Ireland by staying in the rural setting of county Monaghan and the urban setting of Dublin City. While in Ireland the girls along with their parents (53 in total) were treated to guided tours, city excursions of Belfast and Dublin and exploring the Giants Causeway. They enjoyed an idyllic adventure center and experienced the wonders of local customs such as a traditional Irish ceile (party), dancing, music and singing. The tour schedule also allowed shopping time in Dublin, a castle tour, picnics with the other teams and a Mystery Tour night. A luxury coach was provided to take the players and parents to and from all their destinations with local chaperones to help make the tour run smoothly and give the tour the personal touch.
The tour gave a great mix of playing time with sight seeing. The players were always kept busy with evening events planned every night: card making, movie night, bowling, lazer tag etc. This left parents and coaches to enjoy the Irish hospitality uninterrupted. At the games we had scouts and development officers from the Football Association of Ireland so all girls were being watched with great interest, with a few of the Madison girls making their mark for hopeful future international selection.
